One engineer, one designer, one infrastructure engineer. Each of you is the only one of you — no layers between you and the decision. That is the appeal and it is the risk, and we would rather say both.
What all three have in common
Greenfield, genuinely
No legacy codebase to preserve, no five-year-old pipeline nobody understands. The architecture is written down and a dozen decision records exist. You will disagree with some of them, and that argument is welcome and winnable.
The hardest problem is the brief
A class of record that must not be discoverable — not through a count, not through a disabled row, not through a subtly different error message. Getting that right is the job, and it matters to people you will never meet.
AI is in the method, on purpose
You will be expected to drive agentic coding tools hard and well, and to be rigorous about where they do not belong. There is no AI in the mission path. Knowing where that line goes is the skill we are hiring for.
A second track
Between delivery milestones you work on Emma, our agentic architecture platform. It is not a demo and not a wrapper around a chat box — it runs real work every day.
Terms, stated plainly
1099 contract engagements, not employment. You invoice hourly, you carry your own taxes and insurance, and there are no benefits. The rates are set to reflect that rather than pretending otherwise. The initial engagement runs roughly six months to an initial capability milestone; continuation beyond it is intended and not yet funded, and we would rather tell you that now than later.
U.S. citizenship is required, and you must be able to obtain a government-issued credential for access to a controlled-unclassified environment and pass a favorable federal background investigation. This is not a preference — it follows directly from the credentialing and platform access the work requires. No active clearance is needed to apply.
